Ingrid Laubrock

Ingrid Laubrock is an experimental saxophonist and composer, interested in exploring the borders between musical realms and creating multi-layered, dense and often evocative sound worlds. A prolific composer, Laubrock was named "one of the most distinctive rising compositional voices" by Point Of Departure and a "fully committed saxophonist and visionary" by the New Yorker. Her main projects as a leader are Anti-House, Serpentines and Ingrid Laubrock Sextet. Laubrock has composed for ensembles ranging from duo to chamber orchestra. Awards include Fellowship in Jazz Composition by the Arts Foundation in 2006, the 2009 SWR German Radio Jazz Prize and the 2014 German Record Critics Quarterly Award. She is is one of the recipients of the 2019 Herb Alpert Ragdale Prize in Music Composition.

Casey Anderson

Casey Anderson is an artist working with sound in a number of media, including composition, improvisation, electronic music, saxophone, text, and installations. Performances, exhibitions, and residencies include MOCA - Los Angeles (CA), ISSUE Project Room (NY), STEIM (NL), Atlantic Center for the Arts (FL), Mass MOCA (MA), The Walker Art Center (MN), and The Geffen Contemporary at MOCA (CA). He co-founded, and co-edits (with John P. Hastings and Scott Cazan), the Experimental Music Yearbook, and owns and operates a wave press. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California and teaches in the Media Design Practices and Humanities and Sciences departments at ArtCenter College of Design.

Part of the fabric of Los Angeles’ hip-hop / jazz / soul avant-garde since 2005, Georgia-Anne Muldrow has built a mightily impressive discography and a reputation to match during her career as a vocalist, songwriter, producer and musician. It is fitting that in 2018 she should sign to Flying Lotus’s Brainfeeder imprint - a record label deeply embedded in LA, with a ton of shared history and a united vision of the future - to release her stunning new album.

John Palmer

John Palmer is a British composer with a strong international background. He studied piano and composition and worked mainly in mainland Europe until 1990 when he returned to London. In the mid-70s he began to compose and perform as a pianist songwriter, and directed several groups of experimental music and jazz. Since the mid-80s he has focused on instrumental, orchestral, vocal, and chamber music, and in the early 90s he extended his compositional interests with electroacoustic resources.

“I am instinctively searching for creative connections between art, mind and spirit, and composition has become an all-encompassing experience, both physical and metaphysical, sensual, and spiritual. Similar to Eastern meditation, the music I write springs from my inner centre and the perception of an enigmatic sensuality of sound, space and the quasi-silence. After many years, I still discover that music is the most powerful expression of this evolution.”

Trevor McFedries & Aria Dean

Trevor McFedries is the founder of the technology startup Brud and the creator of virtual pop star Miquela or "Lil Miquela", a Gen Z icon with millions of fans around the world. Since its inception in Los Angeles in 2017, Brud has raised funds from venture firms Sequoia Capital, Spark Capital, and SV Angel amongst others. Previously he was an early employee at Spotify and a recording artist and producer that played festivals like Coachella and Lollapalooza.

Aria Dean (b. 1993) is an artist and writer based in New York City. Recent solo and group exhibitions and performances include: Made in LA, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles (2020); Greene Naftali, New York (2020); MIT List Visual Arts Center, Cambridge (2020); Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo (2019); Institute for Contemporary Art at Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond (2019); Institute of Contemporary Art, University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia (2019); Centre d’Art Contemporaine Genève, Geneva (2019); The MAC, Belfast (2019); Tai Kwun, Hong Kong (2019); Schinkel Pavillon, Berlin (2018); Swiss Institute, New York (2018); and de Young Museum, San Francisco (2017). Her writing has appeared in publications including Artforum, Art in America, e-flux, The New Inquiry, X-TRA Contemporary Art Quarterly, Spike Quarterly, Kaleidoscope Magazine, Texte zur Kunst, and CURA Magazine

Kristin Marting

Marting is a visiting artist at the Opera Theater Class at CalArts to talk about the creative and production process involved with MODULATIONS, an online Opera presented by PROTOTYPE 21.

Marting is a director of hybrid work based in NYC. Over the last 25 years, she has constructed 27 stage works, including 12 original hybrid works, eight re-imaginings of novels and short stories, and seven classic plays. She works in a collaborative, process-driven way to fuse different disciplines into a cohesive whole.

Elizabeth Cline

Elizabeth Cline has dedicated her career to supporting and advocating for interdisciplinary artists and artistic communities. For the past 16 years she has organized and produced performative and site responsive works across Los Angeles. Since 2014, Cline has served as executive director for The Industry, a Los Angeles-based experimental opera company founded by Yuval Sharon in 2010. Previously she was the assistant director at Machine Project, an arts nonprofit in Los Angeles founded by Mark Allen, and a curatorial associate at the Hammer Museum, where she organized artist’s projects in the Public Engagement Program.
