Matthew Johnstone

Matt Johnstone is an arts and entertainment publicity & marketing specialist with over twenty years of U.S. and global experience, specializing in independent cinema, fine arts, performing arts, and music. An innovative and resourceful strategist, he has strong understanding of both the creative and business mechanics of the arts and entertainment industry. With a background as an experimental modern dancer, musician, and filmmaker, he brings a nuanced and sophisticated understanding of the creative artistic process and how to deliver dynamic publicity and marketing campaigns. Past clients include a diverse group of performance, music, cinema, and multimedia artists and projects, including Nao Bustamante’s exhibition Soldadera (VPAM), musicians Dorian Wood (ARDOR album) and Sancha, and film festival premieres including Wu Tsang’s Wildness (SXSW Film Festival), Zackary Drucker’s She Gone Rogue (Outfest), Liz Rosenfeld’s White Sands Crystal Foxes (Berlinale), Rhys Ernst’s The Thing (Sundance), and Rachel Mayeri’s Primate Cinema: Apes as Family (Sundance). In 2020-2021 served as interim head of marketing and media at REDCAT, where he created marketing and publicity campaigns for musicians, filmmakers, dancers and artists including Simone Forti, Miwa Matreyek, Tabaimo & Maki Morishita, and many more.
