Music and Poetry of Atahualpa Yupanqui Protest Music in Latin America Guitar and Lecture by Julius Reder Carlson

Julius Reder Carlson, Assistant Professor of Music at Mount Saint Mary’s University, is an (ethno)musicologist specializing in musical activism in 20th-century Argentina and Chile. In addition to his academic work, he is the co-founder of the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra, a nonprofit organization for low-income and underrepresented youth, and the creator of MSMU’s Women in Music Festival, a celebration of music as a vehicle for positive social change. Julius holds degrees from the University of California, Los Angeles, the Universidad de Chile, and the Oberlin Conservatory of Music. He has received Fulbright-Hays and DAAD grants for his research.
