Algorithmic Composition, illustrated by his own work: a review of the period (1971-2019)
Since 1971, marking Barlow’s first departure from 14 years of spontaneous composition, his work has been mainly algorithmic in nature. Some of it was generated by algorithms developed for multiple uses. In other cases, the algorithms were used once only, generating a single work each time. The algorithms ranged from verbal instructions to complex computer programs.
In this talk, Barlow will refer to TXMS, Autobusk and Synthrumentator, as well as a series of compositions generated by once-used software.
