SSSK RELEASES

updated July 2008

Black Drink - Black Drink (c-40) - (Sssk #40) NEW!!!

A trio of prowlers, circling a camp of ugly hippies, waiting for the perfect time to invade, waiting for the updated psychedelics to kick in on their victims so that they can get as close to them as possible, in the dark.
Tom Hohmann (USA is a Monster), Raven Chacon (KILT), Barbara Schauwecker (Animental). Fire-wheezing electronics, tone-obliterated violin, and crunch drums, this 40 minute cassette tells some kind of story, but I can't tell what it is.
Happy ending?

$7.00 postage paid

The Late Severa Wires/Father of the Flood - split -Cdr -(Sssk#39) NEW!!!

A 70 minute disc featuring the extreme varieties within the New Mexico experimental music scene.
Father of the Flood is a relatively new project in the desert noise scene and is one of the loudest; One man who is chained to (or they are chained to him) huge Sunn cabinets and upright piano. A listener for listeners.
Since 2002, The Late Severa Wires are the hub of new music in Santa Fe. Drums, guitars, all sizes of basses and a turntablist, showing up to a 'meeting of the minds' with swords, axes and spiked bats. Quite possibly one of the most intriguing live acts in the Southwest. We are treated in the second half of this split to a live set of the Wires recorded at KFJC studios in California.
We are happy to release this snapshot of NM noise circa 2008.

Cdr limited to 66 copies. Screenprinted sleeves.
$7.00

Catch both of these acts on separate west coast tours this summer.

Fando - business card (mp3 data disc) (Sssk #38) NEW!!!

These guys put together this release so that they could give them out to babes while on the road this summer. Six mp3s ranging from hard-rockin' to "what are these guys smokin'?". Prolific and always surprising.

Free with any order over $10.

The Death Convention Singers - Corrido - cs-20 - (Sssk#36) NEW!!!

Debut tape by the Death Convention Singers. In some instances, trumpets and distorted drums bitch it out, in others, songs in the central NM style, only slooooooooww and ugly. At worst, all acappella tunes, but gets so distorted, that you might turn it off before the 20 minutes is up.
Limited to 50. Three different liner notes depending on if you order day or night.

$6.00 postage paid

Occasional Detroit - Prayer Packages -cs-19 (Sssk#35)

Occasional Detroit: One of the most original, insanely entertaining, and loudest acts to ever call Albuquerque home. This Michigan duo (occasional trio) had toured the U.S. many times over before settling down here. If they'd ever seen this band live, 'damn!', many rappers and punkrockers and preachers would just quit.
Prayer Packages: 1/3 televangelist firing off, 1/3 telemarketer wanting to be fired, 1/3 Classic OD on FIRE!.

Limited to 50 copies. 4 songs on 19 minute cassette. Purple tape lives in a purple imitation-silk sleeve.

$6.00 postage paid

Lobsterbreath - Black Lagoon -Cdr - (Sssk#34)

One of the stranger Sssk releases, this disc by the mysterious Lobsterbreath of central New Mexico assumes that your auditory memory is on par with post-2009 internet or the Library of Congress. Dreamy at times, all the way to in-your-face lifts, not the 'identify-this!' kind of collage,... testing your deja-VU meter all the way to the end.
The sound of someone trying to find beauty after their record collection fell off the shelf...and killed them.

$5.00 postage paid (Few Remain !)

Black Guys - Black By Popular Demand - 3" CDr (Sssk#33)

Recordings from live shows, Albuquerque, NM.
Packaged in a plush red jewelry box. A must-get early-as-hell xmas present for hard-core fans of Black Guys.

$5.00 ppd

(Sold Out!)

Bud Melvin - "Business" (Sssk #32)

How many banjo-pedalsteel-gameboy-hacking-baribasssinging musicians are there these post-Dark Ages-days?? None.
Member of many bands in the Southwest, but his solo project is where you find yourself in the middle of 2 eras you never were.
This limited ed. business card has 1 song on it, but i'll be damned if you don't break your 'repeat' function.

Free with any order!!! or sweet-talk the man himself and see where it gets you. Limited to 100 copies. (Sold Out!)

Old Man - CDr (Sssk#31)

One of the greatest bands of 21st-century Albuquerque history thus far. This short-lived trio recorded 15 songs for this full-length but the band broke up immediately after its final session. Members went to on to become Fando or dropped off the face of the Fifth World.
Some of these songs, inexplicable psychodeathbillysurfblasts, have been burned and traded for years, but have now been remixed/smokemastered and packaged by the Brothers Day and have now decided to be officially released.

"Old Man rocks your ponies with a galloping 4/4 waltz beats played by junkie gypsies as themes for Saturday morning cartoon adventure shows like Jonny Quest all grown-up but no longer battling mad scientists and reanimated dinosaurs, Jonny’s smuggling opium out of Marrakech.Either that or the score to a tense film noir about an agitated sociopath hitman."
-Captain America/Wigwambam Zine

Pro-as-hell thermal printed Cdr/liner notes/all held together in a sleeve by a special edition Old Man collector's button.

Less than 100 available:
$8.00 postage paid.

Cobra//group - Brujas (cdr) (Sssk#30)

The second full-length release by the largest experimental band in the Southwest U.S., this album was recorded in the fall of 2007 at various abandoned locations around Albuquerque,,,in total darkness. It is not known by the core group who exactly is on the tracks or who plays what instrument. Strangers were invited to walk in the room at any session and leave without a trace. Extra tape recorders were set to record, but with no input to attract the home ghosts. Some sessions were broadcast via radio and fed-back into the haunted houses to make the badloop. Some sessions started with one person alone in a room, turned the lights out, grew to twenty in the room, turn the lights on after 3 hours and no one was there.

Silkscreened digipak - limited to 150 copies. Almost an hour and a half of music on a black on black cdr.
Best when listened to while alone.

$8.00 ppd

Death Convention Singers/ Dirty//Birdies -Split 7" Lathe Cut (Sssk#29)

Bad news...
It is looking like Cobra//group is breaking up.........
Or rather, that it is breaking up into 3 different groups......
Or rather, that each member within is being split right down the middle into 3 different people......

Introducing the Death Convention Singers, like a doomed doo-wop group, shyness amplifried one-thousand times. Introducing Dirty//Birdies, on this track, a violin howling mid-were-change, no-input mixers, but no robots getting fingered.

Good news = limited to only 30 copies
For lovers only.

$8.00 (Sold Out!)

Churchfires - Maladroit (cdr or cassette) (Sssk#28) NEW!!!

In the olden-times, from the time when human-sapienors began to build boats and all the way up until Jan 1st 1900, there were pirates who, not as plunderers, but rather as explorer/traders, sought out valuables from one land to trade with another. These people, The Great Pirates they are called, eventually became the Monopoly players of a greater scheme, as unconscious butterknives, spreading 'round the best treasures of each land so that they became one swirled tie-dyed bandana. The cultures were found to be self-entropic at best, and at worst were the reflective taste of these traveling seafolk.
As far as I know, Churchfires is one of those Pirates.

Available in either cassette-19min or CDr format.
Super-limited edition (less than 50), buy from either me or the man himself at a Churchfires or Fando show.

$5.00 (Sold Out!)

Mammal Eggs- Hyeah -c-20 (Sssk#27)

Albuquerque band of guitar, voice, violin and drums. Most bands don't even CARE about the meter changes that this band runs though. Those are usually the ones that are all, "Fuck Rush". It's no secret, 'Americana' is an
ugly word.

$5.00 (Sold Out!)

Fando - The Noisebeard -c-19 (Sssk #25)

Two sets of brothers, more incestuous than Fleetwood Mac ever was, and
twice the notes. As much metal in their veins as C3PO with a Voivod t-shirt.
(ex-Conroy Chino, Pig Heart, Millard Fillmore, Proudass, Old Man, etc, et,c,etc. One of the best bands in ABQ right now. period.

$5.00 (Sold Out!)

5 Way Noise Split 7" ABQ=/=LAX (Sssk #24)

$10.00 (Few Remain !)

Alchemical Burn/Nano Element - split-c-20 (Sssk#23)

A 20 minute cassette, featuring the main project of on A side + a mish-mash of side projects on the other, all steming, in way or another, from the mixer of Ken Cornell. "Songs" range from the harsh to the Technotronic, if one can get away saying so, without conjuring prejudice. If you know this man's music, it is never the same. Like a soundman pissed at his boss. It all can't be burned to tape.

$5.00 (Sold Out!)

KILT - Snowwhiteinhell - 12" LP (Sssk #22)

Noise, Noise, Noise. The trio of Redglaer (Halfnormal, Feed the Dragon), Raven Chacon (Christ with Braces), and Andorkappen (ex- Wounded Head, Sexual Harassor). All I can say is that it is the loudest we could get it before your needle starts to skip. Colored vinyl ranging from "exorcist green" to "grandma's bowlingball pink" and a completely over-the-top jacket cover. Co-released with Anarchymoon and Bastardised.
500 made.

Mama Coma / Bonetar - Split Cdr - (Sssk#21)

SO deep, put your butt to sleep. Or the opposite. Super-sub booty-bassto rattle your trunk. Still hearing it during the crash or the Pigs, whichever shows up first. A harshly original debut from hubby/wife team Luke Nihlen and Marisa DeMarco (YaYaBoomProject), Mama Coma is the newest addition to subterranean NM. Sharing the disk, recently/temporarily deceased Bonetar, the duo of Chad McCoy (Apothecary Blue) and Jonathan Cram, rounding out the disk with their brand of mono/paleo-lithic quicksand-drones. Swansong??fuckit. I'm not even going to attempt to talk about what the collab tracks sound like...like a pissed off Yoko or something. GET THIS!

$6.00 (Sold Out!)

Apothecary Blue - We're Not Here to Help [c-30] (Sssk#20)

30 minute cassette limited to 33 copies. Noise from a veterano member of the Cobra//group collective and half of the drone duo Bonetar.Pieces made by trombone, tape, short-wave radios, and other inanimates unknown, though at any given time it's hard to say exactly what the hell Chad McCoy is doing. Play it loud or play it soft, you claim you love hiss.

$4.00 (Sold Out!)

Lionhead Bunny - The Purple Death-3"cdr (Sssk#19)

Like a Bonnie and Clyde with violin and banjo in the backseat. And for whatever reason, and it is probably best to never ask, packed up the car and aimed straight from the Midwest to the Western desert, speeding
up then slowing down to cover their tracks. Jessica Billey and Bud Melvin of The Grave of Nobody's Darling, Cobra//group, the Lowlights, and many others, when alone together are Lionhead Bunny. The last of a dying breed of travelers that truly belong here, with a
soundtrack to another time. You'll see.
$5.00 - (Sold Out!)
