MX-1 Macintosh Controller Software

Not that I have one (yet), but doesn't anyone know if there is 
software for the Macintosh that will control a Videonics MX-1?  I 
believe it has an RS232 standard serial port?

  It kind of sucks that its 3 years and it seems the best solution 
though the price hasn't really gone down.  Any leads on any new 
affordable equipment?  I am using Imag/ine at the moment but the 
video as its passed through loses considerable quality.  Its great 
though for running and manipulating quicktimes though.
