nudge in image/ine

I'm kinda confused how the 'nudge' function works in image/ine...what I'm
trying to do is take a midi sequence loop consisting of 8 to 16 notes at
between 120 and 188 bpm (depending on the song) and have the first note
used as a nudge, so that every time the loop recycles, some image/ine
parameter is changed...I get confused with the relation of scale to the
amount of movement...in practice, it seems like I get kinda random
'nudges', but what I would like is, fr'instance, to step through the number
of "multi" divisions each time the beat cycles round...

any hints?
