Pandit
Feroz Dastur, a senior artist of the Kirana Gharana is
the disciple of Sawai Gandharva,
one of the greatest exponents of the Kirana Gharana and disciple
of the legendary Khansaheb Abdul Karim
Khan.
In a singing career that
has spanned almost six decades, Panditji has enthralled audiences
both in India and abroad. In addition to performances at prestigious
conferences like the All India Music Conference, Sadarang, Sarba
Bharatiya Surdas Sangeet Sammelan, Sur Singar Sansad and Tansen
Music Festival, Panditji has participated in every Sawai Gandharva
Mahotsav since 1952.
Panditji has been a Professor
of Hindustani Classical Music at the Bombay University since the
inception of its Department of Music in 1969. The many honors and
awards Panditji has received include the prestigious - National
Award awarded by the Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi, The Tansen
Award awarded by the Madhya Pradesh Government, Jimmy & Shirin Guzder
Trust Award given by the Federation of Parsi Zoroastrian Anjumans
of India, Honorary Doctorate conferred on him by the South Gujarat
University and Maharastra State Gaurav Puraskar awarded by the Maharastra
Government.
