Music and Literature - A Live Event, with Wadada Leo Smith

Two plays by August Wilson, who has created ten major plays covering the African/American experience in this Diaspora.

"Ma Rainey's Black Bottom" and "Fences"
Meeting of two ensembles - one dealing with recitation, or reading, and one dealing with music improvisation and systemic creations.

The first session in week one and two will be the actual event, that is where the music and the reading will be created together.

Then on the second session of week one and two, we will listen to the audio and video examples of the performance and place it in some analytical context.
