Jazz Critique
 

 

Synopsis

An introduction to Jazz Literature from the 1920's-1960's. The discourse will focus on the historical developments of writings on Jazz Music as a creative and critical discipline. We will analyze the present set of established ideas of philosophy, and place aesthetical values, performance, practice and interactive field of a jazz creation.

Ahkreanvention music will be presented as a language of creative improvisation (groovemajagamaning?) its activities that are unique in improvised music, with a clear set of principles, correctly used as an inquiry into the nature of truth, reveals another vision of creation that is unique.

But for most, to introduce a new aesthetic debate regarding Jazz and Creative music, the cultural revolutions of the Harlem Renaissance; and from the 1960's, when the African Americans music addressed liberation and Human Rights, and the freedom as ideas(?) informing(?) the creative activities and art , performance practice that had a bipolar design where compositional form and Improvisational form as it's structure, a creative and the observer music where interactive practice is within the ensemble. Therefore, this created a new electrifying music philosophy of social change. The creative artists response was to create an aesthetic system that was indicative of the African American ethos. Goals

There will be readings of important documents of Jazz Critique and listening to historical recordings of jazz innovations with critical analysis.

To create and develop the Cal Arts Jazz Papers, a musical research journal on jazz music.
