Ear and Vocal Training; Two-semester sequence of ear training developing and using the traditional song of Ewe, with the goals of understanding intervals, intonation, rhythmic comprehension, melodic phrasing and ensemble performance technique.

A history of West African composer-performers, through an analysis of the fundamental tonal language and methods organization of the comppsitional-song, structure of melodic phrases and the role of the compose-performers and poets in the West African composition-song tradition.

A historical study of creative improvised rhythms in African-American music tradition from 1900 - 1928, analyzing the musics of Ragtime, Brass Band and Classical Jazz with a prospective on rhythm as history.

Advance Rhythm and Film Study

An experimental study of the performance practice of rhythm in creative music and the rhythmic concept and techniques used in the development of rhythm in film, with a comprehension analysis of rhythmical phrases, styles and forms as used in art-film and music.
